Our history … and former members of the troupe.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Gbenga moved to Harrisonburg after finishing his masters degree in Illinois. He is currently a faculty member of Blue Ridge Community College, where he instructs in computer science. Gbenga joined NSA in September 2011.
A Rockingham County native, Dan joined NSA in August 2010. Self-described as “epic,” “Dan, Dan, the Penguin Man,” and “Daniel Manly,” Dan recently completed classes at Blue Ridge Community College and is currently studying theater at James Madison University.
Another Rockingham County native, John has been doing improv since February 2008 (since the beginning, people!). John recently was accepted to James Madison University and is studying in the School of Media Arts and Design. He also does improv with New and Improv’d.
Hailing from the Windy City, Tony moved to Harrisonburg for his job at Rosetta Stone, Inc., where and began (officially) doing improv in February 2008. In his free time, Tony does pretty much anything you can think of: rollerskating/blading, weight training, zombie walks, ultimate frisbee, etc.
A third Rockingham County native, Jeremiah joined NSA in August 2011, after being recruited from an NSA workshop. Jeremiah is currently deciding whether he would like to return to school, so answers phones in the meantime. His previous employers have included the Massanutten Water Park and Ace Hardware.
James grew up just south of Harrisonburg, in Mount Solon, and studied Secondary Education at Bridgewater College. He speaks Klingon and Pig Latin, both of which he uses regularly as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher at Wilbur Pence Middle School. James joined NSA in August 2011.
As the youngest member of the group, Ashton caused several members to recognize their true age … when they realized they had taught Ashton in school. He is currently attending Blue Ridge Community College. Ashton joined NSA in August 2011.
Originally from Northern Virginia, Steve ventured to Harrisonburg, following his wife, Julie. Currently, he parents his eight children (“sheer madness,” he says) and runs Good Shepard School & Daycare. He joined NSA in August 2009. In his free time he … never mind – he has no free time.
Jan has lived many places, but her clear favorite is Alaska, where she still owns a cabin and visits at least twice a year. Jan is the definition of free spirit and began doing improv in 2009. Don’t be fooled by her laid-back nature, though – she has a wicked sense of humor and can do a killer impression of Alaska’s own Sarah Palin.
